TLS-4000 SERIES:

TLS-4000 Series Tape Libraries combined with Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT) tape drives provide unsurpassed performance, capacity and value for all unattended backup requirements. Developed by Sony, AIT has been adopted by OEMs and integrators worldwide for distributed database backup and archive, video, and image storage applications .

Twelve TLS-Series models provide scalable capacities from 300 gigabytes to over 78 terabytes. Advanced design utilizes provenrobotic technologies for extremely reliable operation and years of trouble-free service. The TLS-Series incorporates small footprints and powerful menu-driven command
and control functions for easy integration and very low cost-per-megabyte.

The TLS-4000 Series is now recognized as an exceptional tape library design. Designed for years of dependable operation, the latest models use the same unique leadscrew-based mechanism that established a reputation for outstanding reliability, and the same advanced servo controls for precise positioning and flawless media handling.

All TLS-Series tape libraries support barcode scanning for efficient media control. Filtered, positive air pressure is maintained throughout the libraries to eliminate airborne contamination for longer tape and head life. I/O Ports support the lights-out operations, enabling complete application control of media inventories. Field upgrade kits are available to double the capacity of several models.

Complimenting the TLS-Series, AIT continues to lead the industry in tape technology. AIT-2 is now the leader in the mid-range tape market, storing 50
gigabytes per tape at 6 MB/second. AIT-3 is due to ship soon, doubling capacity and performance. Sony recently announced extensions to the AIT roadmap through AIT-6, assuring that it will readily keep pace with exploding storage requirements.

TLS-6000 SERIES:

Qualstar's TLS-6000 Series Tape Libraries offer superior performance and value for DLT and SuperDLT tape users. With capacities from 350 GB to over 52 TB, the TLS-6000 Series economically and reliably automates DLT-basedapplications, whether backing up a single server or as an integral part of an enterprise-wide storage management solution.

The TLS-6000 family comprises 7 models, providing a broad range of cost-effective solutions. Housing one to eight SuperDLT or DLT 8000 tape drives and up to 240 tapes, TLS-6000 multi-drive library models readily support concurrent reading and writing to meet the throughput needs of today's rapidly-growing servers and networks. The SANSmart Fibre Channel interface option supports the latest lan-free and serverless backup SAN technologies. Support for multiple SCSI busses is also built-in to maximize throughput.

The TLS-6000 Series also offers advanced features such as Logical LibrarySM barcode scanning of tape cartridges, and an I/O Port is included in several models for importing and exporting individual tapes under application control.

Qualstar is known worldwide for quality and reliability. All electrical and mechanical adjustments have been eliminated for easy installation and enhanced reliability. The TLS-8000 family comprises 7 models, providing a broad range of cost-effective solutions. Housing one to eight LTO Ultrium technology tape drives and up to 264 tapes, TLS-8000 multi-drive library models readily support concurrent reading and writing to meet the throughput needs of today’s rapidly-growing servers and networks. Support for multiple SCSI busses is built-in to maximize throughput. A Fibre Channel interface option brings TLS and Ultrium technologies to the latest SAN and serverless backup applications.

RLS SERIES:

The RLS-Series delivers the benefits of Qualstar’s Simply ReliableSM Automated Tape Library design to users requiring rackmountable solutions.
The RLS-Series supports AIT, LTO and SuperDLTTM cartridge tape formats, giving users technology choices without compromising quality or reliability, in compact 5U-high modules. Offering superior performance and value, the RLS-Series Tape Library family includes four models yielding capacities up to 4.5 terabytes (native). Using typical data compression ratios, capacity can exceed 11 terabytes. Depending on the tape drive technology chosen, individual models house up to four tape drives. Data transfer rates can approach 450 gigabytes per hour. Built-in reliability is only part of the RLS-Series story. Hot-plugable tape drives have been designed in to reduce downtime. Each drive is on a selfconnecting mount that eliminates handling cables. Simply slide the drives in or out.

High Availability plus Q-Link TM
The High Availability options include hot-swapable redundant power supplies, true hot-swapable tape drives, and Q-Link, the web browserbased remote library manager. Q-Link allows any RLS-Series Tape Library to be installed, configured, monitored, diagnosed and managed from anywhere in the world. Using Q-Link, companies can deploy enterprise-class data protection without increasing staffs or degrading data security. Even firmware updates can be implemented remotely.

Investment Protection
Featuring IPMSM (Interface Personality Module) architecture, RLS-Series libraries can be reconfigured in seconds for SCSI, Fibre Channel, iSCSI or future interface architectures by simply plugging in the appropriate IPM. A field upgrade kit doubles the capacity of an RLS-4221 in less than 15 minutes, without adding modules which saves rack space.

Reliable, Intelligent Robotics
The RLS-Series unique robotic mechanism is Simply Reliable by design. Leadscrew-based robotics using brushless DC motors and closed-loop servo control systems provide precise positioning and flawless media handling for years of dependable operation. All FRUs and tape drives are auto-discovering, and all electrical and mechanical adjustments have been completely eliminated by sophisticated adaptive ‘smart’ logic design.

Easy Operation
An intuitive menu-driven control system provides easy-to-use installation, configuration, and operational information via the onboard LCD panel. Critical operating functions are displayed and an audible alarm signals conditions requiring immediate action. All of the information, functions and controls built into the front panel display are replicated in Q-Link, the powerful, browser-based remote library manager. Tapes are housed in convenient magazines that simply snap in and out of the library. Removing and organizing tapes for off-site storage has never been easier.

Advanced Cartridge
Management and Security
Bar code scanning enhances throughput and controls the media inventory. VIOP, a unique variable I/O port design, allows users to determine how many slots to commit to importing and exporting tapes. Our exclusive ‘Inventory Sentry’ senses whether the tapes or magazines have actually been removed when the door is opened. If they haven’t, operation is resumed without causing a time consuming re-inventory.

Logical Library SM
and Fibre Channel
Logical Library is built into every RLS-Series library. It allows up to four servers to share a single library, even if each server is running a separate application. Systems that you couldn’t afford to upgrade can now be protected automatically. The SANSmartSM Fibre Channel interface option supports the latest 2-gigabit per second SAN topologies, ideally suited for serverlessbackup, data protection and other storage management applications.

CLS-4216:

The CLS-4216 delivers the best performance and value in an industry-leading, compact 2U-high package. Blade serverbased systems and other concentrated rack mounted installations now have a complimentary high density backup and archive solution.
Using proven AIT-2 tape drive technology, the CLS-4216 stores 800 gigabytes (native), the densest on the market. Utilizing AIT’s advanced data compression engine, typical ratios can raise capacity to over 2 terabytes. Housing one or two tape drives, native data transfer rates exceed 43 gigabytes per hour, making this library an effective answer for shrinking backup windows. Using the built-in data compression technology, the data rate can exceed 112 gigabytes per hour. Hot-swapable tape drives have been designed in to eliminate offline time. Each drive is housed on its own self-connecting mount: simply slide drives in or out, without disconnecting or reconnecting any cables, and without interrupting read/write operation to the other drive.

More Standard Features
The CLS-4216 takes a fresh approach to options. What are usually extra cost options are standard features in the CLS-4216. These include a barcode reader for efficient cartridge inventory control, hot-swapable tape drive modules, and a built-in web-based remote manager for anywhere/anytime administration. Customers select one or two drive models to meet their throughput needs and rack mount or desktop configurations, nothing more.

Investment Protection
Users can easily add a second drive to double the library’s data transfer capability. As data storage requirements continue to grow, upgrading to AIT-3 drives both doubles capacity to over 4 terabytes and raises performance to over 220 gigabytes per hour, protecting the initial investment while extending the useful life of the library well into the future.

An intuitive, menu-driven control system provides easy to use installation, configuration, and operational information via the large LCD panel. Complete status information about the drives and the media inventory is readily available with a few simple commands. 3400 SERIES 9-TRACK TAPE DRIVES:

Qualstar brings the power and reliability of 9-track tape technology to personal computers, work-stations, and midrange systems providing easy interchange of ANSI or IBM format mainframe data. The 3400 Series provides streaming tape performance in a low profile, 5.25" high package. It will read and write mainframe information in ASCII or EBCDlC formats using labeled or unlabeled tapes with fixed or variable length records on DOS, NetWare, UNIX, Windows, OS/2, NT, VMS, or MAC 0/S. Supported platforms include IBM PC, Macintosh, RS/6000, AS/400, Sun, DEC, HP 9000, Data General, SGl, Unisys, and others.

The 3400 Series offers a broad range of models and features to meet any requirement. A comprehensive set of diagnostic tools is built into each drive, including automatic calibration, self test, maintenance reminders, and performance monitoring functions. The digital display gives clear, concise reporting of all drive functions and diagnostics. Its advanced features, compact size and rugged all-metal construction make Qualstar's 3400 Series the tape drive of choice for critical applications worldwide.

6101 SERIES DLT TAPE DRIVES:

The 6101 is the right desktop DLT tape drive for users who anticipate upgrading to autoloaders or libraries in the near future. The 6101 uses the same automation model DLT7000 tape drive and library-ready mounting enclosure as our TLS-6000 Series DLT Tape Libraries. Your investment is protected and the useful life of the tape drive is extended as systems expansion requires automation solutions. Converting the 6101 to library use takes under a minute, then just slide the drive assembly into one of the five TLS-6000 automation models.
The 6101 is an ideal backup and archiving solution for individual servers and workstations. Capacity ranges from 35 gigabytes to 70 gigabytes, and throughput over 35 gigabytes per hour can be achieved using compression. DLT tape drives are supported by every Unix, NT, or NetWare platform, and all backup and archive applications, making integration of the 6101 easy.

Operating standalone tape drives using just the information provided by the drives LEDs can be frustrating. The 6101 features an LCD display to provide over 20 status messages, including Reading, Rewind, Seeking, and Writing to keep users fully informed, taking the guesswork out of tape operations.

Like our TLS-Series Tape Libraries, the 6101 supports all SCSI-2 standards for easy integration with other devices. The LCD control panel makes setting the SCSI address easy.
